Completely agree. The Cannon set is ridiculous. The 2nd biggest factor in that set(behind low pull counts) is time. Look at Choo Cannon. Sold out a few days ago at 66. I bet 60 or so of those are already on accounts they'll never leave. If you want that card, you're battling die hard Rangers fans and probably a few Reds and Indians fans as well. Not to mention the people who may have never pulled a card that good before and are keeping it for sentimental reasons. I hope you already have it now cause you won't be seeing more than single digits for sale. Now anybody deciding collect the Cannon series has basically no shot of completing it unless they pay the astronomical prices for the very small handful of availble Choos.
I've limited myself to only collecting ECs, Indians inserts, and most golds. With the one week availability of the ECs I've been able to form a game plan. Ignore it the first 3-4 days. Card count will be too low and thus asking price to high. Worked well for Castellanos. Price was really high the first 3 days when there were only about 103 of them. Waited till yesterday when it hit 275 to make my 2nd offer on one and got it. The first time I offered, I was too nice of a human being and guided a newbie into getting a fair offer. This Bunter was still in diapers but got a lucky pull. Probably could have gotten it from him for a crappy gold but told him which offer was best (sold out Hernandez and Cano sabers+,he was Mariners fan) and told him about inserts and relative value to help him out. I wish I was a more diabolical person, Bunt would be so much easier.
I'm currently in ignore it mode with Brantley Cannon. Went from 23 to 200 today. Should be around 350 tomorrow. That's when I'll go for it. Right before it goes sold out. The hardcore Cannon collectors most likely already pulled it or traded for it.
As for coin bundle prices, I won't be purchasing coins until the bundles themselves go on sale. Not interested in pack sales anymore. The 500k coin bundle a few days ago wasn't the least bit enticing. For those of us who have to watch our spending, giving us a $75 option to buy, like it's a generous gift, isn't gonna get us to buy. I wanna see that 250k bundle half off for a day before I do anything.
