Awesome thread. I am a Christian Youth minister and I love that trade Cardinals!! I may use that in a lesson really soon as several of the kids in my youth group play the Topps apps nowadays Can I take a stab here... are you a Southern Baptist? You just seem to have that SBC fire that some of our more "traditional" brethren don't possess (no offense meant to them of course...).

Wow this surprises me how many people on here are Christian, because there are more and more atheists now a days. I'm Methodist (which is a branch of Christianity) and it makes me glad that a lot of people on here are Christian as well What are the differences between normal Christianity and the Methodist faith?

What are the difference rs between normal Christianity and the Methodist faith? you will have to be a little more specific about "normal Christianity" methodists believe in god, son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that both the old and New Testament are inspired word of god. Salvation is only through Jesus Christ, and we believe highly in free will. Idk if that's what you wanted to know or not but that's only a few things

What are the differences between normal Christianity and the Methodist faith? I don't know; I'm Catholic I'm one of those pesky athiests you were describing. I'm non-militant (most of us are we just don't like being preached too the same as religious people don't like being preached to by athiests). Bascially, I'm not going to de-rail the thread! I would ask you don't all lump us into the same box though. Like most things, it's the few who shout loudest that tend to form others opinions of a particular group of people.

You have free will to make your own choices. One of your choices could be how tolerant you are. Heaven is not pre-determined for you just because you're Catholic, but based on your choices using free will.

Let me be clear: my angst against atheists is reserved for those that act in a very condescending and militant manner. I have an engineering degree and went to a highly technical school, where the majority of students are atheist or agnostic. Thus, I have had many conversations with friends (roommates, dorm residents, classmates, etc.) about the subject. With some I have had very stimulating conversations, talking about cosmology and the origins of the universe and other philosophical thought (solipsism, pantheism, panentheism, etc.). With others, I have been assaulted with the wrongs of religion and how religion is the cause of so many deaths worldwide, etc. I am particularly opposed to Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens. Their brand of atheism is brash and condescending to the point of derision for me. However, I have very few qualms with Neil deGrasse Tyson, who is more for the expansion of scientific thought even though some of his presentations on the new series of "Cosmos" leaves me with some questions. There is certainly always room for discussion and if we could allow cooler heads to prevail, I think this world would be a better place. However, militants of any creed (or lack thereof) piss me off.

Free Will as in God gives everyone free will or in how tolerant you guys are of other peoples choices? You have free will to make your own choices. One of your choices could be how tolerant you are. Heaven is not pre-determined for you just because you're Catholic, but based on your choices using free will. thats pretty much what I would've said. @muely I have no problem with atheists as long as they don't bash my beliefs, and you are right about how most people classify them into just one group, but Christians of all people should know that saying everyone in a certain group are all the same is wrong.
