I don't like the idea of re-releasing cards from so-called "dead" accounts, either. I view the app as my place to house my digital card collection. If I decide to take a year off (or 5) I've suddenly lost my rights to MY cards that I paid good money for? Can we do that with peoples' closets, too? If you don't actively collect then we're coming to take your old cards away. Topps is acting like this is some sort of cash grab instead of focusing on building a platform that will become the new model for modern collecting. They change rules on the fly, don't enforce rules, and seem to bend over backward for the non-paying contingent. If they want a platform where nothing has value and everyone can have whatever they want whenever they want, fine. But make that a "free only" version and separate it from the people that actually want to collect and have money to spend on it. Unfortunately, when it comes to digital rights, there is a very gray area that many people have run into and it all comes down to the license agreement that is in place between the end user and Topps. I've been looking for a copy of their EULA for quite some time and cannot find it. With some digital content, you only own a license to the content that you've purchased through the digital content distributor. This means that, for certain situations, the distributor can revoke your license and reclaim the content. This is why the EULA is so incredibly important, since Topps could theoretically claim that the cards were never really yours but that you only obtained a license to them. It could be argued that by not accessing the app for a certain period of time, Topps has the right to revoke your license and reclaim the digital content. Again, without a EULA, no one can be absolutely certain. Personally, I don't agree with this one bit but this sort of thing has been done in the past with eBooks.

Thanks guineapirates, that's eye-opening. I definitely need to re-think my approach with this app.

Let them re-release sold out cards so that 75% of the coin-buyers quit and BUNT loses 75% of their profit. Then they'll have to listen to us if they want us to come back.

I don't think they should re-release them or do a stupid v2 of them. Look how that ruined the TBT.
What they should do is email all accounts that have been in active since January. Let them know that on October 1 their cards go back into circulation.

A re-release of the exact card would completly devalue the original card. I don't understand why they'd do that.
A release of a "2nd edition" would ensure an instant "who cares" reaction in my opinion. Like having an original and limited piece of valuable art then seeing reporductions released. However limited the reproductions were, they just won't be close to the original value.
Simple solution is (if Topps are even thinking of doing this) stop releasing new sets every day because they are clearly running out of ideas. Quality over quantity. Maybe think about the construction, award and design of a set a bit more.
The surveys means nothing. They will just ignore the responses that counter what they want to do anyway.

Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? The issue for me is even though I can ignore the 1st edition and just get a 2nd edition for my collection the TBT cards now have this awful "seal" on them, which completely ruins the concept of bringing back the classic card designs. I changed my mind though on putting cards back into circulation, after reading some of the posts here. I would be pretty mad if I decided to take a break from Bunt now, and come back next year to find some or all of my cards gone. Banned accounts are a different story, but I don't think its worth it for them with all the potential problems it could cause.

My thought on recirculation of dead accounts is this. 1. Topps announces this will happen via the news feed and emails. 2. You get several warnings via email before it happens This would cause the people who take a break to only log in once every 3-4 months

Funny you should say that - I'm racking my brains as to who had 8 Harpers last year because I remember trading with the guy and noticing how ridiculous his account was. Almost Guinea Pirate esque. (I mean ridiculous in a good and slightly jealous way )

I personally look at re releasing cards as an easy money grab. It's very easy for them to slap a 2 edition emblem on it and say here you go. People will chase it, and Topps will make money. It's a win win for Topps, and a lose for those who are not casual users of the app.
