As many of you I am a HUGE Reds fan. This season was very disappointing. The killer was the injuries but also the many holes in their lineup.
Reds Off-season To-Do List:
1. Extend Cueto, Mesoraco, and Frazier
Johnny Cueto was a bright spot of this season. He pitched Cy Young ball in his first 20 win season. The big issue for the Reds is after next season Cueto, along with Simon, Leake, and Latos will become free agents. The Reds are expected to trade at least one starter in the off-season. They need to find a way to extend the ace of the staff so that they can contend the next few years. Devin Mesoraco and Todd Frazier both had amazing All-Star seasons. They are the future of the Reds and they would be smart to lock them up now.
2. Upgrades
The main thing that was hard for the team was their hitting, especially in the outfield. Jay Bruce you can usually count on for 30 homers but the left field spot has been weak. Ludwick isn't working and neither is Heisey. This team needs a bat in the middle of the lineup. Someone like Daniel Nava would be an inexpensive upgrade. They also should look into moving Cozart. He had a great first couple years in the big leagues but hasn't really improved offensively. Though he was named a 2014 Gold Glove finalist he hasn't been hitting what he has the potential to.
3. New Generation
The Reds have a really nice farm system. It is time to start testing new blood, especially in the pitching staff. They will need a replacement from the system soon after 2015.

I've heard rumors that the Reds might be entertaining the thought of trading Cueto

In all honesty, Nava isn't much of an upgrade over Ludwick and Heisey. Cheaper? Maybe, but not much of an improvement compared to the current tandem.

They should pursue the new Cuban guy Tomas. I can't think of many great outfielders on the market

I couldn't think of who all was out their. Melky makes the most since. Cuddyer is always hurt, Cruz looks more like a DH, Zander I don't believe Markakis has ever played in the NL has he?

Personally I think Matt Kemp would be a good fit. I can see the Dodgers moving him, to make room for Peterson in the outfield. Picture this line up:
Hamilton - CF Phillips - 2B Frazier - 3B Votto - 1B Kemp - LF Bruce - RF Mesoraco - C Cozart - SS

Originally I was thinking Latos and cash considerations, but Latos is due 7.25 Mil next year so that is probably would not happen. Cingrani does now make more sense at this point. Maybe Cingrani, Nick Howard, David Holmberg, and cash considerations.

Andre Eithier could be an option as well as he will come at a cheaper price then Kemp. But isn't a huge upgrade over Ludwick and Heisey.
