The catcher position as you may know is a position that requires a high baseball IQ. For that reason, you will be writing an5 paragraph essay for the contest. Topics you can write about are the greatest catcher of all time, greatest catcher moment, or any other topic catcher related. You will submit your essay to me in a message. Aw, i just wrote an essay for school . THE GREATEST CATCHERS In baseball, there are tough positions. You have the pitcher, tough plays to make in and out of the outfield, but how about the catcher, squatting behind the plate, catching and blocking pitches, telling the pitcher what to do... It's a pretty tough job. But what catchers are the greatest? There are so many to choose from, Torre, Bench, Mauer, Yadi, Martin, and Salty (rising star), Berra, Fisk, Pudge, Carter, Posada, and others. My all-time best is NOT Pudge 9bleacher report), but Berra. He put up incredible numbers, was amazing behind the plate, and not to mention his sayings on and off the field. He is a 2000+ hitter, 300+ hr hitter, 1000+ RBI man, and has a low strikeout number. Not to mention with those numbers, he went into the navy. Not only that, but he was a 15 time all star, and 3 time MVP, ('51, ,'54, '55). That is pretty impressive for a catcher. Now mind you, he doesn't have the glory as the best catcher moment in history. No, that belongs to Carlton Fisk. Who can beat a world series, do or die, game 6, home run? Pretty sure that is clutch. Not to mention of the drama that came with it. Waving it off, I mean, how dramatic can you get? There have been some greats, but what about the modern days of baseball, the current players? I think the upcoming star is Saltalamacchia over Yadi. He has some incredible OPS and slugging percentages and the HR total he's had, he will be a superstar in the future. I chose him over Yadi because Yadi is getting old, and even though veterans are great, a rising star will be around later in the years. The catcher, an important spot. These guys have a tough job. I've played catcher in little league, and trust me, it is NOT easy. Maybe someday, there will be a huge superstar catcher greater than these guys. Good luck to the rest of you guys, THECOLLECTORGUY
