Contest idea
Hello BHK community. I'm sure most of you, like me, are fantasy baseball junkies with multiple teams, forgetting which team has which player. When you're talking to your friends about fantasy you say something to the effect of “Yea I have him on my team” and this ends up being every draft worthy MLB player. You made a push for Springer but lost in waivers and were really happy about your “sleeper” Abreu. You were pissed about Kershaw, Sale, Moore, Fernandez, and every Brave pitcher going down. Kipnis has been killing you, you drafted the Hamiltons too high (Billy and Josh) and you refused to pick up Buehrle until it was too late. You may be holding on to Paxton, Bundy, Gausman, Bradley, and Walker for that next big arm. And for those of you that overvalued Tanaka and took him "too early" as your friends made fun of you...well done!
-But I digress-
I'm not sure if BHK has done this in the past, however, I am conjuring up an idea to have an one-night live draft. The following night the stats would count for your drafted team. It may be fun to do once a month and have prizes awarded. I'm still working on the scoring, however, I'm thinking about giving points for rankings in various categories. Meaning if there are 5 teams, the owner with the most home runs would earn 5 points for that category and the team with the least amount of home runs would receive a 1.
Example
Home Runs
Team 1: 6 home runs------5 points
Team 2: 3 home runs------4 points
Team 3: 3 home runs------4 points
Team 4: 2 home runs------2 points
Team 5: 1 home run------1 point
The categories I was thinking are as follows:
Batting: Hits, Runs, Home Runs, RBI, SB
Pitching: Innings Pitched, Strike Outs, Walks+Hits, Earned Runs, Wins+Saves
+Holds (Stats determined by ESPN fantasy baseball)
The owner with the most points overall obviously wins.
Being that it's a one night deal, the number of pitchers each team may have will depend on the number of participants. The breakdown of each team would probably be C, 1b, 2b, SS, 3b, OF, OF, OF, SP, SP, RP, RP. Again, the amount of starting pitchers each team will have will depend on the number of people that sign up. Please only sign up if you can spend time doing a live draft one night. The draft date has not be determined as of yet as we can still discuss the details. This is not set in stone so suggestions are welcomed. We will schedule the draft probably later 10pm EST or so, so that west coasters can participate and have the draft preceding a day where all teams play.
What do you think?
15 slots open, each team will get 2 SP.
