Had almost forgot this, but just watched the old video at my dads during lunch.
When I was in middle school I was a big kid, 5'10" about 170-180lbs. Never got any taller, but the wastline has expanded since hitting my 30s. Also a pretty good power hitter and catcher.
Anyways playing senior league (13-15) I hit a HR my very first at bat when i was 14. The fence was 300 and I was the first 14 year old to do it in a few years. Second at bat hit one off the fence. Needless to say everyone expected a lot more HRs. Well, I didn't hit any. Hit it well, but no HR
Fast forward to my 15 year old year and I was on a tear. hit 3 in the first 5-6 games, then went cold for about 3-4. Get in a game and the pitcher had been hanging his curve ball all game. You hear my dad telling me that on camera, "He's hanging it out there, pull it and drive the ball." I get up and get a 2-2 count. He hangs a curve ball and I crush it. I mean I new it was a shot when I made contact, and I pivot and just hold both hand in the air with my bat instead of running. Well as the ball lifts, it starts to break foul. Funny thing is my dad has this awesome shot of me slowly trying to sneak my arms down as the ball drifts foul and looking around to see if anyone noticed. Really embarassing and then I grounded out on the next pitch and never look up going to the dugout.
May not be funny to anyone, but he and I laughed all lunch over it. Thought I'd share.
