Quick back story, I took a season off playing softball to be with my wife and kids. Quit weekends about 3 years ago, and this is the first time I haven't played a rec league since high school. My brother is 12 years younger than me (I'm 34, he's 22) and he just got in to playing last year. Was a good high scholl player and I only played last year to be on a team with him.
This year he is playing with his friends since I didn't get him on teams with me. Last night, they were one short and the rain was coming. They called and I agreed to play to give them enough till the rain hit.
Well, the rain held off for the most part and we had an epic game. Which ever team was at bat took the lead in almost every inning. Top of the sixth (7 inning game) and the rain had been coming down for about 5 minutes. Ball was slick and we gave them 9 runs on a lot of errors, yours truly contributing 2 runs on throwing the ball away.
We came in down 5. I was batting 5th and my brother 6th. I get up with one out and a man on 2nd and 3rd down 3. It starts pouring two batters before me. I had all plans of trying to hit it out and tie it up, or take an outside pitch to right field and at least score 2 and get me on 2nd. Well, the other team walked me to set up a double play. I look at my brother (who due to the age gap and my mother's second husband being a POS, is more like a son to me) and stare him down. "Make them pay for it. They're calling you the weak link."
He hits the ball hard, just doesn't lift it a lot so I was thinking I gotta run and break up the DP. First pitch and he hits a grand slam to dead center. We won 24-23. We had an awesome celbration. The whole team was 20 somethings except me and another guy who is about 45 and pitches. We all dogpiled him in the mud.
Probably the best night of softball in my life.
