One of the greatest hitters of a generation has died. He was truly fun to watch and was a great statesman for the game. He will be missed.

Something that will surely make me mad later today is when Topps decides to roll out a In Memoriam card for Gwynn and get folks to shell out cash to complete sets of cards - like they did for Zimmer.

Oh man that sucks. He was truly great and Topps is trying to capitalize off of his death. One of my favorite players ever. This disappoints me to say the least.

Yet another great baseball hero to the big field in the sky. God speed my friend. Don't forget to save me a seat in the bleachers...I'll get there someday.

Topps gave the card and award free to all Padres fans. First great gesture I have seen from them in a while. -PADRES100

Interesting fact is in his whole career Tony Gwynn only struck out three times in a game once; the starting pitcher in that game? Bob Welch, who passed away 7 days ago. Guess Tony went to go get his revenge, RIP to not only perhaps the greatest player of a generation, but the classiest.

Very sad indeed. Not only was he a great baseball player, but personally found him to be a terrific on ESPN as well.
