Been getting lots of questions about making custom cards, so I have decided to make a tutorial. Here it is.
WHAT TO USE:
1. Download the free photo editing program GIMP. (hyperlink)
HOW TO GET TO THE CARD:
1. Download one of AVPELLEG's Templates. (hyperlink)
2. Click on "Save" when prompted to. The Template will be saved in your "download" folder. For easier accessibility, move the template to your "photos" folder.
3. Go into GIMP.
4. Click on "File", then "Open as Layers".
5. A menu will pop up and there will be many options on the left. It will look like this:
Search
Recently Used
----------------
Pictures
Your Last Name (Most likely, could be something else)
Desktop
OS (C:)
DVD RW Drive (D:)
Documents
6a. If you moved the template to your Pictures, the click on the "pictures" tab and then the template.
6b. If you left left the template in your Downloads, click on your last name, then "downloads", then the template.
HOW TO CLEAR THE CARD:
1. Press CTRL-L to open the layers menu.
2. Right Click each of the layers that do not pertain to your custom card. (Such as team name, team logo, player name, etc.) Then click "delete layer"
3. DO NOT DELETE THE BACKGROUND, FRAME, OR NAMEPLATE OF THE CARD (such as Fired Up, EC, Bowman, etc). This will RUIN the card.
HOW TO INSERT YOUR IMAGE:
1. If you need to cut out your image first, click on "Open," click on your image, then read this (hyperlink). You will need to do this for Fired Up, Tribute, Illustrated, Aces, (to create the "glowing" effect) and any time you need to use a certain pose in a different background. If you don't, continue to #2. If you do, read the hyperlink, cut out your image, save it, then continue to #2. You should do this for ancy logos you need as well.
2. Click "File", then "Open as Layers." Go to wherever you put your photo or cut-out photo and click it and open it.
3. Go into that CTRL-L layers menu again and drag the layer with your picture to wherever it should go.
4. Do the same thing with any team logo you need as well.
HOW TO ADD TEXT:
1. Double click on the "T" in the toolbox menu. Click on the font and size of your text and then draw a text box where you need your text. Type what you need to type. If you need to type multiple things, repeat the above steps multiple times.
HOW TO CREATE CERTAIN EFFECTS.
Editor's Choice:
1. Go into the CTRL-L layers menu
2. Click on the layer with the photo of your player.
3. Click on "Colors" on the top bar.
4. Go down on the list that pops up, and click "Posterize".
5. Scroll the bar that pops up until you get between a 10-15. Scroll between 10-15 until you find an effect that looks nice.
Topps Aces and Topps Tribute ("The Glowing Effect"):
1. You will need two layers, the original photo and the cut out photo. (Or simply just the cut out photo for Tribute). The original photo should be behind the cut out. Be sure that the cut out player is right where he was in the original photo, so none of the player in the original photo is showing. (This only applies for Aces)
2. Click "Layer" on the top bar, then "New Layer." Make sure the "Transparency" box is checked. Then click OK.
3. Get out your pencil tool and make its color is white. Color in the player. Try not to go over.
4. Go into the CTRL-L layers menu and drag the white fill-in behind the cut out player. Make sure the white fill-in is still selected for step #5.
5. Go into "Filters" on the top bar. Then go into "Blur" and select "Gaussian Blur." Use a 15 x 15 blur radius.
6. For Aces, you may want to blur the original photo to make it look better. Because you still have the cut out, this will not blur the player, just the background. To do this go into the CTRL-L layers menu and select the original photo. Then go into the Gaussian Blur menu mentioned in step #5 and use a 15x15 blur radius.
