Here are the "aces" in the Topps Aces Series so far:
1. Johnny Cueto - Yes 2. Josh Beckett - Uh... good pitcher? Yes. Ace? Hell no. Kershaw and even Greinke would have something to say about that. 3. Dan Haren - Lol another Dodger in the series? And it's not Kershaw or Greinke? Okay Topps 4. Jake Peavy - If I was drinking something, I would have done a spit take... Peavy is the ace of the Red Sox? No, no he's not. It's clearly Lester.
The Ace of a pitching staff is your No. 1 guy. The pitcher who you rely on for a win every time he goes out there. Beckett, Haren and Peavy don't fit the criteria for that. They used to, years ago.
You think a baseball card company would know better than that.

That's why the next two aces are going to be Roenis Elias and Vidal Nuno.

This set was a huge disappointment. Cueto was the only real Ace in this set. I really liked how the cards looked, and was hoping to see someone like Andrew Cashner in this, but Instead I saw a bunch of middle-of-the-rotation pitchers and two dodgers & two phillies!

Cliff Lee isn't an ace? I beg to differ. He has a very strong track record.

Cueto was the only pitcher who was in his league's top 5 pitchers! The rest were in their league's top 5, years ago.

Here's what the set should have looked like (and yes, I tried to keep the teams the same, except teams that have 2 Topps Aces cards): Cueto Kershaw Scherzer (instead of Haren) Wheeler (I wanted to keep a Mets pitcher in there) Tanaka (instead of CC) Buehrle (instead of Hudson, sorry for taking out the Giants pitcher) Hamels Wainwright (instead of Burnett) Cashner (instead of Peavy, sorry for taking out the Red Sox) Award: Hernandez

Cliff Lee is still an ace in my opinion has an ERA barely above 3 even if he is hurt right now. The rest I can understand. But those are somewhat justified.

I feel like this set should have been like the Cannon set with 20-some cards to include ALL the aces in the MLB.
