The Oakland Athletics have acquired pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Addison Russell, Dan Straily, and Billy McKinney. After your initial shock wears off, what are your guys' thoughts on the move by Billy Beane?

It's a great move by Beane IMO. That rotation is borderline preposterous. Samardzjia, Gray, Kazmir, Chavez and Hammell is one of the deepest rotations in baseball. Straily has been getting bombed in the minors since he got healthy so he wouldn't have even cracked the rotation this year.
The issue is that Russell is a potential superstar and McKinney is a solid prospect in his own right but let's be real... Beane operates in a world of windows. With the limitations he has to work with, he has some years that are better than others. This year he has the best record in baseball. There's a legit chance that by the time Russell is ready in a few years (if he even maintains his top prospect trajectory), Beane has had to dismantle the team he has right now. He should absolutely be going for broke right now, even if it means giving up a mega-prospect.

Great for oaKland. I am really shocked the got hammel and samarjza that has really increased there odds. I thought he would end up with angles

Im worried about the lack of any decent hitters around the middle infield SS and 2B have been a black hole this tear offensively with Callaspo, Lowrie,Parrino and Punto all sharing time. its been bad for Lowrie with the bat i would love to see them pick up a short stop and move Lowrie back to his natural 2B postition

Great move for the A's. Seems like their bats need some work. I never understand their lineup. It just seems very well, out of place. I don't get why they bat josh 2nd, lowrie in the middle, and reddick near the bottom. It just all confuses me.

I figured Samardjia would wind up in New York. Good trade for Oakland. Chicago could have pulled off a great deals getting Russell. Maybe not great but pretty good on their side too.
