Ted Williams is the best because he was the best In the legaue then signed up to join the army and then came back and STILL was the best and kick some gluteus Maximus

I think Babe Ruth is but I will make my point for Pete Rose. Although is not in the HOF for obvious reasons I still think he deserves some credit. Rose is the record holder in several offensive categories and has 3 world series rings to his name. He appeared in 17 all star games and best of all he was a switch hitter. I'm not saying what Rose did was right, but he has the record for hits (4256). I don't know about you but I would prefer this guy on my team than PED user who gets caught. As Rose has said for years, he never messed with the actual game like some guys are today.

Babe Ruth is for sure. It you look at what he was able to do in the batters box and on the pitchers mound, it's pretty incredible. He's considered one of, it not the, best hitters in baseball history, when he spent much of his early career pitching. Not to mention he actually was a pretty good pitcher (2.28 era, 96 wins). The fact that he was THAT good on the mound and then still went on to hit over .300 for his career with 714 HR's seperates him from any other player.

Ruth for 2.28 era, 96 wins, .300 AVG, 714 HR's, and eating anything he wanted, skipping the gym, carousing & drinking like a fish. A true "american" icon of the "good" & the "bad".

I'm going to have to go with Jackie Robinson as my selection for the best player of all time. Everybody knows what he did for the game of baseball and for sports in general. He took so much criticism for being black but still had a stellar career statistically. He hit .311 was a six time all-star (and one time Negro League all-star), won the World Series, NL MVP, Rookie of the Year, batting title, 2x stolen base champion and was named to the MLB All Century team. He is also one of two players in the four major sports to have his number retired for every team in that sport (Wayne Gretzky's 99 in hockey). There are plenty of other players I could have gone with but I stand firmly behind my decision.

Steve Carlton is definitely the best player of all time! One year he recorde 27 wins, while his team, the Phillies, only had 59 wind that season. That means he accounted for 50% of their wins. He also has the second greatest war in pitching history. In 19 of his starts he pitched 9+ innings and only allowed 1 run or less. He also only allowed 1 home run to cleanup hitters that whole season. He also lead the Phillies to their first World Series victory in 1980.
