Steve Carlton is definitely the best player of all time! One year he recorde 27 wins, while his team, the Phillies, only had 59 wind that season. That means he accounted for 50% of their wins. He also has the second greatest war in pitching history. In 19 of his starts he pitched 9+ innings and only allowed 1 run or less. He also only allowed 1 home run to cleanup hitters that whole season. He also lead the Phillies to their first World Series victory in 1980. I'm a huge Carlton and Phillies fan but this is for best player, one season can't define a career even though he did have a full star-studded Hall-of Fame career. Also he doesn't have the second greatest war in pitching history or for a single season, and 27/59 isn't up to 50% either. He's one of the best pitchers of all-time but he wasn't even the best player on his team, that was Mike Schmidt

I do love mike Schmidt but he did only have a few good seasons in his day too and 27/59 is 1 and 1/2 wins away from 50% that's close enough jeez!

Only a few good seasons...he had 30+ homers 13 times and led the league in homers 8 times, accumulated 548 Homers and is arguably the greatest 3rd Baseman of all time with his 12 All-Star appearances, I'd say that's more than a few

I'm a huge phillies fan and I agree that Schmidt is the best Phillie and undoubtedly the best 3rd baseman of all time and its 2 and 1/2 wins away from 50%

Jackie Robinson was only an ok player. He wasn't an outstanding player like Ruth or Mantle, he was just as tough as nails. I would say Ruth because I don't know any player that comes close to him being a pitcher and also hitting bombs. So I have to say George Herman Ruth.

Problem comparing Jackie to people is he only played 10 yrs. as to babe ruth who played 22 yrs Jackie was 28 and babe was 19. When they started. If I was to pick one of the today. I would pick Jackie he would translate better into today's game.

I can't believe not a single person has mentioned Hank Aaron yet who in my opinion is the greatest player of all time, easily the greatest Home-Run hitter of all time and the most all-star appearances of all time...and you can take all those Home Runs away and he still would have been a member of the 3000 hit clubs.

I think that Ted Williams was the greatest player of all time. He had that one season where he had a .406 average nobody has touched it since. He won two Triple Crowns which shows that he was good all-around offensively which you need to be the GOAT. He had 6 batting titles and his career average was .344. Additionaly, he had 521 home runs, 1,839 RBIs and 2,654 hits. If he hadn't enlisted he would have probably have had 3,000 hits one of the greatest accolades batting-wise.
