Hi folks. I've never been that active on here but a few of you guys were nice enough to let me borrow some coin cards so I thought I would give back a little. I was curious about how hitters would look under the new BUNT point system so I downloaded a bunch of stats from FanGraphs and created a spreadsheet. (That's a link, in case you aren't sure!) It shows how many points hitters would have if the new point system had been in effect for the first half. It's an estimate, not 100% accurate: for example, I didn't include fielding at all. The results, though, are sometimes shocking (to the extent they are correct). 47 of the 161 players I have stats for are in negative territory! Woe betide you if you start Everth Cabrera (though as a shortstop, his fielding points will help a lot). Hope this is useful; please let me know if you see an error. I have trouble believing how that works because Dioner Navarro has been a solid .270 hitter all year with not a ton of Homers or Ribbies. I still think the system is weighed a little too much to power guys because I'd start Navarro over Marcell Ozuna anyday.

That's a very nice look into that. Thanks for the time and effort you put into that. I will be seeking the top 50 and trading the rest. Lol. Thanks again!

I'm glad some of you find it useful. I will try to get one up for pitchers soon. Please do feel free to use the information in other places if it's useful.

Again, I'm not 100% sure it's right: I posted the formula in the top right of the chart (you should be able to see it with a mouseover) so please check that against what's posted on the app and/ or check to see that it's working right for Navarro to see that I didn't make a mistake. The new formula definitely gives a big bump for HR's.

Could you do one like this for pitchers? Ok folks, it's done. It's a second sheet in the first document, so follow the same link and look for a tab at the bottom. It's a little rougher because I didn't find data on singles, doubles, or triples allowed, so I calculated the BUNT points associated with the average hit relinquished in the first half and used that with the pitchers "hits per 9 innings" from FanGraphs. One other issue: I calculated expected points per 9 innings pitched rather than total first half points. I thought that'd be more useful. I added a couple more features: first, I included my version (i.e. "per 9 innings") of the old points system so you can see how much the new system changes things. Second, I added a percentile calculation, and looked for changes in that so you can see how much the pitcher would move up or down relative to other pitchers under the new vs. old system. Some are more valuable now, some are less, though in general I would say the changes aren't huge. In the end I realized that this won't make much difference for me since I play whatever cards I have rather than choosing between 9 Josh Becketts and 9 Julio Teherans or whatever. Must be nice to have that choice! Anyway I hope this is useful to those of you who do, and again, thanks for your generosity in sharing your coins cards from time to time. We little people really appreciate it!
