Spanish giants Real Madrid has agreed to a £59.7 ($98 million) fee with English Premier League club Manchester United for winger Angel Di Maria. Di Maria most recently participated in the 2014 World Cup for Argentina and played in the SuperCup Final for Real Madrid a few weeks ago. He will wear No. 7 for Man Utd.
What are your thoughts on this deal for Real Madrid? For Man U? Is this deal beneficial for the English club, or will it not work out? Did Real Madrid do the right thing in signing Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez for £63 million and letting Di Maria go? Leave your thoughts below!

The amount of money spent on transfers in soccer is going up and up and up. Paying that much for players like Di Maria or James who are nowhere near world class yet seems crazy to me. Thankfully my club is not involved in this kind of crazy business and spends smart on new players. I am talking about Bayern Munich by the way.
Di Maria who has shown nothing but his diving skills in La Liga will not have much fun in the EPL, where contact is much tougher.
James most likely did not do himself a favor either. He needs to grow and develop into a great player and I highly doubt he will have the best development options at a cut throat club like Madrid.

He has proven to be one of the best wingers in La Liga and is a very good passer. He and Mata will be able to control the ball well and make passes into open areas for RVP and Rooney.

I admit that I don't like him and I don't think he has his priorities straight but he wasn't one of the best wingers in La Liga for quite some time. He started off great but year for year rather declined and had ups and downs. Just like Ozil who can only play good if the whole team is having a great day Di Maria cannot make a difference on his own and will go totally dark if the team cannot get it together. That is what makes the difference between a good and a great player. I can see him having a decent year in the EPL since that league gives you the most room and the kick and rush might be more in his favor but almost 100 million dollars is ridiculous in my opinion and is more of a "we have to take what we can get" just to do something and give the fans something to cheer for. Imo it was a really bad decision but it would not have been the first one from ManU. The only other transfer that was even more overpriced was the Neymar transfer to Barca but at least he has marketing power. Just my 2 cents

Ha, I was wondering why you were so harsh on him. I do agree that Di Maria may not have the same impact with Man Utd as he did with RM. The obvious comparison is Özil. Watching last week's AFC game made me wonder, "What happened to the Özil we saw at Real Madrid?" He doesn't seem to be playing as well as he can, and his defense is glaringly awful, especially since he played on the wing last week. If Man Utd can sign Blind and/or Vidal, they may have something cooking, but unless they can mold the team to play together as one, they're just going to be a group of talented players with different mind sights, and not a team. I see this same kind of play from Arsenal a lot too. Sometimes they just look like a group of talented players all doing their own thing instead of playing as a team.

Yeah, I should probably apologize in advance for any Football discussions. I think the European culture takes Football a bit more personal and is more harsh with it than any other sport. So please bare with me in the future And yes, talking about Özil makes me upset. One of the most overrated players in the world. He shows one fantastic game and then has 3 games where he is not being seen at all. We call it a "nice weather player". It does not surprise me at all that he has nothing to show for in his time at Arsenal. Another example is Kagawa. He had an outstanding year with Dortmund where the team was bigger than any player. Then he switches to the EPL and cannot even get a starting job and barely gets any playing time. The top teams in the EPL buy and buy and buy without creating any stability or even implement a system which takes years. That is also one of the main reason the English team doesn't get anything accomplished in tournaments. They play like chicken who got their heads cut off. City and Chelsea who have an abundance of offensive talent will always win some games due to the offensive fire power but from a tactical standpoint it is bad and it has shown in the past. All of the big clubs focus on buying offensive talents but most of them (besides Chelsea and City) have big deficits in the defense and defensive midfield. The EPL is an enjoyable league to watch because of the kick and rush they play but on any international ground they stand no chance to other leagues top clubs.

soulchyld: Yea, a good example of an English club with lots of firepower but average defense is Liverpool. With the addition of Balotelli + the other summer signings they made, their offense has the potential to be one of the most highly-paced and most potent offenses in the Premier League. The only problem is that if they lose the ball on the counter stack, they prove to be quite vulnerable on defense, especially since their fullbacks tend to come up with the offense, leaving only the centre backs (likely Skrtel and Lovren each game) frantically trying to cover as much ground as possible. This is also something I see a lot in Arsenal, which frustrates me a lot. High-octane offensive counter attack, but susceptible to vulnerability if they lose the ball on the counter. Doesn't help that Mertesacker is slower than dial-up, LOL.

Just wanted to add in: It is a great signing by MUFC, my team of course However, it is definitely not the position Man Utd fans and I would like to have seen: we need more strengthening on the defensive aspects on the field as shown VS Sunderland and Swansea. Nevertheless, Di Maria is an excellent player who will no doubt add class to our undeniably flimsy side. Honestly, if di Maria is not world class, I don't know who is....MVP of last years CL final and WC finalist... It's Real Madrid's loss really, they spent 60M+ on an unproven player (James played fantastic in the WC, but really, if you watched his performances for Monaco last season, you'll know that he isn't all the hype set around him: still a world class player) and sold one of their most consistent player whom also , you can technically say, won them the CL last season. Plus, Di Maria's versatility is remarkable as he plays quite well in the center of the field as well. And I'd like to say, Kagawa is actually an outstanding player, but sadly, he has not been able to live up to his potential for he has never been given the chance as he's always been put out of position. In a team consisting of Rooney, Mata and Di Maria, I highly doubt Kagawa will be given the chance us MUFC fans are really yearning for. And Mertesacker, though slow is an absolute beast lol . nuff said Balotelli is a great player with loads of potential, if only he plays with his head down, he will be an absolute beast. and 16m is really a bargain. However, I wouldn't say Liverpool have done necessarily done well in the market this summer. Lots of unproven players for quite a bit of money..(Markovic, etc) don't be offended though, It's in my human nature to hate Liverpool XD

Although Di Maria may not have wanted to move to Manchester United, he will be their most valuable player. He had the best form in United's previous match. He is a top class player and will be very impressive for the Red Devils.
