Topps has found out, probably during Thursday Throwdown and Monday Night Throwdown, that the needle will move (i.e., coin packs bought) if there are boost cards. As stated elsewhere on this site, the whales want to compete vs. the F2P players and dominate them. And they do this by getting all the rare cards (golds, silvers, inserts). But once that is done, how does Topps make more money? The whales can beat the F2P pretty easily so now they found a great way to get whales to dominate other whales, by offering one-time boosts (Throwdown night) and weekly with these new 5 Black Boost cards. Sure you can beat F2P players but if you want to beat other whales, you better keep up with the rat race, or whale race, to compete.
We already know that whales will beat F2P players all day long in the weekly and seasonal points races, but bravo Topps you found another way to get whales to spend more.
As a F2P player, you understand you won't collect inserts or boosts or sigs, with your 15,000 weekly Free coins and you know you can't beat anybody in points play. But I gotta give it to Topps to squeeze more money out of the paying player. It doesn't really affect F2P players since we never had a shot anyways with our small tinkering in this app.
But for making money, bravo Topps, the Throwdown (your money) idea and the Boost (our coin pack sales) new additions will help pay for the new card designs to sharpen up the headshots for us F2P players to enjoy.
Us F2P players will enjoy the new card designs thanks to your spending. They are making the headshots look pretty sharp. Doing what they can.
