Hi all,
Earlier today, the servers of Topps broke down over the release of one of the rarest inserts: Nightbrothers. The servers for ALL the apps crashed. Topps sent out a notification 2 hours ahead of the release time, which was at 7 EST. Around 6:58, the app started acting strangely. The servers then crashed for 5 minutes. They updated saying it was at 7:20 now. Then, they changed it to 8 EST. Then, Topps decided to release it at 7:45 EST.
This was very poor planning by Topps. Could we see this type of poor planning and breakdown in the future? What do you guys think?

This will happen over and over if the run their apps on the same servers each app should have its ow server to reduce this from happening. I really can't believe they aren't doing it this way

Based on the packs selling out in 12 minutes (I am estimating 50,000 packs were sold based on their odds). I am guessing they were not ready to handle the HUGE number of users at the same time. I have a few takeways from this 1) The app is a lot more popular a lot faster than they anticipated. I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I think it may be time to reduce the daily bonus to 5,000 so the FTP users aren't contributing as much of the traffic. At the current pack prices, FTP users can get between 75 - 375 packs per week (750 if they wait for Green packs), depending on which ones they buy. Based on the odds for most of the marathon sets, a FTP user can get as many as 25 inserts a week (that is based on Bounty Hunter and Fans Choice odds) or 12 of the better ones like Vintage. This may be too many free premiums to be giving away. I understand why they did this in the beginning, but it may be time to reduce some of the insert counts and lower the daily reward to reduce some of the strain on the server and focus more on the customers that contribute to the bottom line. I believe a lot of users save thier free coins for Night Brothers, Vintage and Wideview sets and this will only continue for the best sets
2) 7:00 PM EST is a prime time for pack release
3) The push notification two hours earlier allowed every one to be ready for a "hot" pack. 15 minutes may be enough OR just have a set schedule for releases
4) At least there was some transparency on this. I had the same problem playing Huddle during the Super Bowl where less than 70% of my plays were saved because of the volume. When I complained, they denied there was any problem on their end. At least they are owning up to the problem this time
5) Refer to #1. This app is more popular than we can imagine and when Topps issues a good set with low counts, the users flock to them

I was honestly surprised when the daily bonus was at 25k. When you said F2Ps could get 25 inserts per week, those are just fan choice cards. They have counts of 10k or higher and go for 1 yellow if they are lucky. Plus, most of the F2P players (like myself) spend our credits on packs with better inserts. Overall, I agree with all of your points.

Let's also not forget that BUNT was down, so there were a lot of users that normally would have been trading and buying in BUNT that may have been in the app when they normally would not have when they saw the push that the pack was coming out in 2 hours

I would buy a small coin pack first, as apparently if you don't spend, you don't get access to blues & golds.

I think the Star Wars app is more appealing to F2P (like me!) with the higher daily free coins. And some "inserts" that can be obtained (even high count ones). I am liking Star Wars more than Bunt at the moment (from a F2P point of view). As far as BUNT, the whole contest thing is much more complicated that last year. And the FREE contest of the day payout is not enough for me to tinker with decks and lineups and swapping cards in and out).
