I could understand chasing these in the first 3 or 4 sets, but now, they seem like a money dump. Based on the Gold cards alone, here is what I am seeing, someone correct me if I am wrong
As of today, there are 26 scene collections. That means that, on average, 1 out of 26 of your golds will be for the current set, which you have less than 24 hours to complete.
Your chances of pulling a Gold Card in a 20,000 Darth Vader Master pack is 1% You get 15 cards per pack On average, you need to pull 7 packs to get a gold (140,000 coins) With 26 different Gold, on average you would need to pull 180 packs to get the 1 Gold needed for that day's scene (3,600,000 coins), which means that that Purple card will cost you $400.00. That is assuming you don't have bad pack luck. $400 for a shot at a Purple doesn't seem worth it to me.

being a BHKSW noob, I was initially all about chasing yellows and golds, all while trying to spend as little cash as possible. Was kinda unlucky with inserts at the beginning and so didn't really bother with them; realised way too late that's where the real action was and wished I'd started with them sooner! Now even the yellows and golds are way too hard without spending significant cash

As the months roll by, the golds being releases now will be sooooo plentiful.
I think a F2P player should pick an insert set or two to aim for. Pick one that shows up in base packs. Hoard your coins until the day that insert is released. Then chase it! You might miss your insert one week, but get two the following week and trade for the one you missed.
Fans Choice is shunned by the $$ players because there are 20,000 or so of each one. I think a few months from now when there are over 20,000 of most golds, many F2P players would be happy to have Fans Choice. Fans Choice is not the big money set like Vintage or WideVision, but it is pretty cool looking and very attainable.
(I like F2P but have spent some money on the app)

Yep, since I've wisened up it's the ol' keep-my-free-credits-till-my-favourite-collections-day strategy for me!
