What sets are you chasing, as a F2P player I am struggling to find a set I want to chase. With the new contest format, the FREE contest of the day pays out 500 coins if you finish in the top 500. Usually they have early and late FREE contests so you can earn up to 1,000 coins if I watch and swap for afternoon games and night games. This reward is not enough for me to take the time swapping in and out. I have been setting up a one-time-save deck with whites and a few green/red sprinkled in and over the past few days usually end up in negative points. So....unless there are Best of Bunt cards to be added. I will be avoiding contests and playing for points. So I thought about collecting the white set. I hope for a good Signature card to come along but the first one Trout sold out quickly (no prob), then the second Springer had even more rare odds. So I am stockpiling my free coins 252,000 and rising but not sure what to chase.
What are you chasing? I learned a long time ago as a free-to-play player that I won't get all cards and to choose a single set to chase.
Maybe I should trade my white/green/reds for 2014 cards and boost my collection score?
I am trying to get all white/green/red Brewers base card though so that is what I hope for when I open packs. So far the best deal is 3500 coins for First Pitch Packs which yield 5 cards per, which is 700 per card (with at least a chance to get green/red), the base Deck Builder Pack has 50 whites at 200 coins per white).

I'm trying to have fun with the rookie contests. Trying to upgrade whites to greens, and greens to reds, etc. Saving coins, waiting for some type of bargain pack (which haven't come yet). I did buy a $10 bundle before opening day, and it was godawful, no golds, just a few mediocre blues. So there's that. Was hoping to get fans choice or editors choice, but the vultures at topps have taken those from us too. Just have to lower expectations. I was happy to be in the top five yesterday, until the end, and finished 8th in the end. Set it and forget it, and still did almost enough to get 1000 coins.

Since the first days of the new stuff I have been going for anything non-2015 by trading away the new cards for whatever they net me. Unfortunately, most 9-1 posts have dried up in regards to getting old cards, so the bargains aren't there as much. I've enjoyed getting the collection score up, so keep an eye out for those trying to send off 2014 cards for 2015 at a discount rate. And I agree, the rewards for the free contests are veritably worthless given how much one earns per day for free. With the additional bug of voided trades for cards in decks, I just skip the contests as well. Since white cards are now quite cheap with the 50 card pack, they are now quite easy to get. Therefore, consider saving up your coins for anytime a 10,000 or 20,000 coin pack arrives proclaiming odds for blue and gold. Those will likely be the only base cards by year's end that have any sort remaining value, and since they are still considered rather rare now, try to get those to help build your Brewers set. You may have to flip any blue/gold you get for Brewers, but that's a challenging set worth aiming for.

I'm chasing white, green and red base, grabbing some packs here and there when blues are a possibility and the coin cost is reasonable. Sent you a trade to help you with your Brewers.

As for packs/inserts, I've been going for random insert cards based on whichever pack is cheapest, currently First Pitch (I have 2 in the set), formerly the Opening Day Packs. I've been pleased that the insert packs are basically the same price as the base packs so I'm generally always opening a pack with a chance at an insert.

I'm an occasional pay player, lot of coins saved up from the winter, and I pay to get behind the paywall a couple times a week.
If I had to guess, they will probably open up the Gypsy Queen and Career High packs to all users within a couple of days. The inserts in those packs are just NOT moving - currently 17 available cards in Gypsys, and 12 in Careers. So I expect the only way they will have to get them sold will be to bring them out from behind the paywall, or do VIP packs again (and that didn't seem to move the needle much the first time). The Careers are already supposed to be available to all users, according to their articles, but they're clearly not.
So hang tight - I'm guessing better packs are coming for FTP players.

I pulled the trigger on the 50 Deck Starter White pack just to get some cards to play in the free contests. Again, a set it once and forget it. Wonder if I will get top 20 though and those sweet 1,000 coin rewards. Figure I will also dabble in the packs that at least have the chance at insert or blues. I agree the First Pitch pack at $3500 for 5 cards is the second cheapest coin per card cost (700) to the white pack coin per card (200). I wonder if they will have a Brewer Sig pack but honestly, even if I got that at 7500 per pack, my 252,000 only gets me 33.5 packs. And at the current odds, Springer Sis was at 1:175. I probably not going to get it....so I am taking the advice and looking for older 2014 2013 and 2012 Brewers cards while getting white, green, and reds of 2015 Brewers, and trading any occassional insert or blue away for Brewers. Cannot chase them all and cannot play for measily point rewards, this sounds like a fine way to play with F2P.

I also agree that as the season progresses, insert sets that are slow to sell out will be moved out from behind the paywall for everyone and if so I might snag an insert there to for trading. Though I imagine when they do move them from behind the paywall they will lower the odds, say if it was 1:30, it will be 1:80 outside the paywall. But at least I will have shot at one.

I like your strategies guys I hoarded piles of coins over the summer and got a nice cheap start on this season. I do like F2P, but broke down and spent some $$$. What I would like to do, if my pack hungry fingers would behave, is hoard coins for a couple weeks, then buy the 99cent bundle to be able to use the hoarded coins to buy the premium packs.

I have found that the free contests are winnable as long as you don't have a big player in your group. I have won 2 or 3 so far, the 2,500 coins are nice, and I have found it fairly reasonable to end up top 10. I haven't taken a shot at plunking down 2,500 coins for the bigger rewards, I might for the afternoon contests today.
