I've been playing the free contests since opening day... Building my deck and trying to figure out the structure & strategy. I've been doing well of late, finishing top 5 pretty much every contest and winning several. My question is whether I should try jumping up to the 2,500 coin Pro league. Without being able to see leaderboards I have no idea how I'd stack up and was curious if any of you pay to play?

I play all the Pro Leagues, and I usually make a profit on coins, but at the minimum, I get my coins back. Spots 11-25 get their 2.5k entry fee returned. If you're getting top 5 every day in rookie, then I think you'll do just fine in the Pro Leagues.

I may give the Sunday 4:00 a whirl as I do have a gold Felix (one if the few I've managed) and sale boost.

I've played in all three contests, and hear are my thoughts for those of you wondering whats the difference between them: The free one is pretty much a "for the fun" as there's not much reward for the time spent.
The Pro contest is good for the few coins if you finish 2-10, and the "Touch EM all" reward is rather weak for first place. Basically its reds, blues, and maybe green. The one opened had one blue and the rest red.
Allstar ... 2 through 10 the payoff is pretty good. First place not so much. I've been playing on there lately, and the top scorers usually will try not to finish first. Encase your wondering I've opened three packs, the break down is as follows: 3 gold, 4 blue, and 8 red. I think I'd rather have the 50k.

I'm working, so had to set my lineups for the day and cross my fingers. Getting totally destroyed with the bad pitching. Cant wait til I can sit an enjoy some games and swap cards in and out.

I ended up playing in two Pro contests on Sunday, the Afternoon (4 PM) and the Primetime Yankees - Red Sox contest. Here's my assessment as a Free Contest player making the jump up:
With the free contests you can get away with the set it and forget it or the occasional check ins (to make sure a pitcher isn't blowing up) method of play and still do fairly well. I rarely play hitters and regularly finish top 5 in the free contests.
The Pro contest is another story. Unless you have a deck full of high scoring cards (which I don't), the occasional check in method doesn't score well, as evidenced by my poor showing in the afternoon contest. I couldn't watch / check in much due to family obligations and with Felix having a bad day I was sunk. I decided to try again for the Primetime since I was planning to watch and had one of the boosts. Even tho Buchholz stunk I managed to finish top 5 by swapping out by inning and playing hitters to take advantage of scoring plays.
I'll probably stick with free contests and earn some coins unless I know I'm able to actually watch a game and can maximize my plays. Then you may see me jump into a pay contest.

Thanks for the info starkill1138. I won't be in a rush to try a Pro Contest now.

Thanks for the info starkill1138. I won't be in a rush to try a Pro Contest now. It's definitely fun when you can play along with a live game. I simply don't have the ability to watch games all day every day. I suspect as the season goes along and more people build up high scoring decks it's going to get much more difficult to finish high in a single game contest. There's more strategy in building your deck with a muti game contest.

I did the pro yesterday afternoon when I could pay attention to the 3 games. I started real slow, but because I was able to make changes, I got huge boosts on the high scoring offensive plays. I managed to finish 11th despite only having 2 common starting pitchers. Lucked out on having Danny Espinosa in from an earlier possible scoring play and got the Homerun boost.
So I echo starkills comments, if you have the time you can compete in a Pro contest, but set it and forget it will not work. I would love to do the pro-contest for the 6:15 Was-Bos game today, but I have to coach my son's T-ball practice. Going set it and forget it on a free contest and hoping to pick up a few coins, no loss if I don't.
I have found that if you enable the ESPN alerts for scoring plays, most of the time you can quickly change your players and grab the points. It's not perfect, it probably depends on how quickly the alerts happen. I was watching the Yankees game last night and it was at least 30-40 seconds between when a play happened and I got the alert. Over the weekend some of the alerts were near instantaneous, those are the ones you can grab the points. Getting a couple of boosted cards in on a homerun can vault you up the leaderboard especially if you flip it against the pitcher that gave it up (You go up, many others go down).
