As I look at BUNT today, I have now seen the release of three new insert sets, a Cuddyer Milestone card and the usual minutiae of the daily inserts (SNB, EC). The previous sets, with the exception of the St. Louis HOF set, have yet to be awarded. As many have stated, and I fully agree with, this system of releasing infinite inserts is not sustainable and eventually we will all burn out.
It's evident that traders want nothing to do with older inserts in return for these new inserts. That leaves two options: 1) overpay for these new inserts or 2) spend a lot of money to buy packs and pray to God/Buddha/Vishnu/Allah that you'll pull at least one insert. The problem with the overpay is that you will eventually run out of cards to overpay with, which will lead you to the second path. The problem with the second path, as I've described before, is that it is expensive to maintain. The rewards for completing the set don't justify the cost.
The reason for my griping is the latest "Walk Off" series. This is a 20-card set with the first couple of cards limited to 450-500 and with horrific odds (1:75 or higher). Think about this for a second. A 20-CARD SET where you have to shell out 5,000 coins for the slim chance of getting one card. Just gets old.
Anyway, enough of my ranting. This sucks.

the thing is, theyve been averaging 2-3 sets per monday for the past few mondays and there doesnt seem to be any let up by the masses. last week was vintage and backstops and then they had the cardinal HOF soon after. with school starting up again soon, it'll be interesting to see how crowded the fan feed will be as well as activity in general. the end is definitely near...

Wow - 20 card set, the first few limited to 450-500 and odds of 1:75 or higher? Who came up with this? Why would you, as a collector, put yourself through that? It's very possible that these first few might be the rarest ones, which means you will get the bulk of the set from this weeks inevitable black/gray/orange pack but getting these first ones will be impossible. No thanks.

What is it going to take for the tiny percentage of players that are keeping this app afloat to say enough is enough? Slow down on the inserts and don't release a set unless it's something worth releasing. Every time Topps releases a new mediocre set it just devalues the enormous investment that the top tier VIPs have put into the game.

Ha ha!! I can tell they are defiantly running out of ideas here. The set of In-between innings is an absolute joke!

The thing is, these sets are not actually as difficult to get as the odds stated in these articles. For example, this week I got all of the cards in the Vintage, Backstops, and Super Vets (and 3 Carlos Gomez sigs) simply by waiting to open black packs and gold VIP packs later in the week. Grand total of 750,000 coins got me the lot of them, or at least enough that I was able to trade for what didn't pop out of those special packs. Granted, that is still significant money spent, but I got all three of last week's chase sets (Cards HOF notwithstanding) without ever opening a Vintage, Super Vet, or Backstop pack.
Don't think I'm disagreeing with your main premise--the over-saturation of inserts is a serious problem for the long-term health of BUNT. I just think that if you are willing to wait 3-4 days after they announce a set to begin trying to grab them via insert-guaranteed packs, then it doesn't cost quite as much to get the cards as it seems when looking at the stated odds for the specialized set packs.

Guess we know why the last of the BASE cards was 2 weeks ago. More time to make INSERTS for the last 6 weeks of the regular season, then the POSTSEASON cards will be next, only INSERTS from now on for the rest of the season....

I mean, how many kids have the kind of money to keep up? absolutely agree. but if you think about it (and do the math on the financials), they cant be making all that much money (relative to their overall business) so they dont really need all that many people to keep things afloat here. thats why they dont have PR, marketing, support resources for their 3 apps. doesnt take them much to create these designs and so why not keep flooding them out? sure, they could do a lot better with the designs (like why dont they put down the dates of the walk offs on the front or back?) but why spend the time when they will get the same ROI either way?

They have kind of backed themselves into a corner though. Take this past weekend for example. After the Friday night VIP sig chase, what else was there? No special packs were offered (Sunday Brunch, Midnight Madness etc.) and there was one insert set released which was comprised of 4 of the ugliest Bunt cards ever. I'm sure no one was spending. There was no excitement, no chases that they have people hooked on expecting. You just knew today was going to be insert crazy. They started this, and now they can't stop. But keeping these insert sets cranking is obviously driving a lot of people out at the same time. What can they do now?

Yeah, the golden goose is dead. Not touching the million coin bundle. the ONLY reason i'm considering it at this point despite trying my best to dump everything TODAY is the lightning chase. at the same time tho, i know the way to go would be to simply pick it up on the bay or here. there is something magical about that 1-day frenzy and i still think its the best design after the sigs.
