I wonder if they ran into a copyright issue - anyone know where they were getting the AS images from? Maybe the photographers of the photos or whoever owns them didn't like the fact that they were being used and edited without permission.
What is strange is the AS shots were not removed completely and replaced by HS. Had that happened they definitely would have had to refund everyone. Which they definitely did not want to do. This makes me think that some sort of settlement was reached. Maybe Topps said "we will stop using AS in the future but do not want to remove them completely because we will incur a huge loss". The other side probably agreed to save litigation fees.
Anyway this sucks.

Well, I think that they didn't completely remove the AS from the game because they're not selling them anymore, therefore not making any money off of them.

Ultimately I'll sum it up at this. It is what it is and me not liking or complaining about it is not going to change anything so what's the point. I'll enjoy it for what it is and see what they do with this. Maybe they can still make inserts look decent, etc.

I feel the exact same way. They action shots were pretty cool, but I just couldn't get over the edited uniforms, especially when they didn't resemble the team's uniform at all. I'm not really after inserts anyway, because I have the worst pull luck ever, and I've noticed how low the counts are on almost every inserts released, which rules out trading for them. Over/undervaluing makes it hard to trade also. I probably wouldn't be able to trade my old cards for whites haha. But it's whatever. I still enjoy this app despite it's numerous issues since I'm a major football fan.

Aside from the initial "cool factor" of seeing a new insert or in-game photo, the cards will still have a certain player, count limit, boost level, and theme (for inserts) associated with them. It can still be decently fun. That's the perspective I'm forcing myself to take at least, as I'm sitting on a bunch of coins from the last insert chase.

GREAT read there. sums it up for me. i basically consider the 1st 2 weeks huddle 2014 v1.0 and we are now in v2.0. one that i am definitely not going to support going forward. i'm bummed that i have a decent amount of coins still to burn through. so far, it hasnt been pretty. the FC card for victor cruz looks even worse than the new HS version, if thats possible. today's GM release isnt worth chasing, again, it looks terrible from a collectibilty standpoint. the big keys will be when they release the sig (not a good sign that it didnt come today) and even more so, the next new insert series with only mugshots. they showed us in 2013 that they could create different looking cards by just changing the borders, but like you said, going from a mercedes to a kia just wont be the same. ive been spending a bit more time on kick the past 3 days to check it out and ive posted 3 times on the article feed and twice, TOPPSCHARI responded directly to me (w/o prompting him). thats bananas. i'm basically going to be treating the v1.0 as a great, great "season" and consolidating everything as much as i can, just like when i winded things down in bunt. super bummed about this but i dont see things getting better. hopefully im wrong. |
